I LAND expands on the Hawaiian tradition of talk story, combining theater and dance, bringing dramatic narrative, comedy, hula, and hip-hop dance together to tell a unique and compelling story. I Land is acclaimed actor and hula dancer Keo Woolford’s moving search for heritage in a post-modern world. In this semi-autobiographical journey, Woolford navigates the many worlds where hula lives, from backyard parties, to Hollywood kitsch, to the realm of the sacred. $12 general; $10 student/Fringe button.

The final film from The Museum of Russian Art's Russian Film Series is showing at the Heights Theatre (in Columbia Heights) TONIGHT! A Soviet version of the youth films that were becoming popular in the West in the 1960s, Walking the Streets of Moscow follows four young adults as they negotiate universal rites of passage and attempt to find their place in the world.
A startlingly fresh-faced Nikita Mikhalkov (Burnt By the Sun, 1994) plays Kolya, a construction worker, who guides his Siberian friend Volodya through the big city. Meanwhile, Alena, the object of Kolya's affections, is entranced by Kolya's boyhood pal Sasha. Noted writer Gennadi Shpalikov penned the delightful screenplay, and Vadim Yusov, whose luminous images haunt Andrei Tarkovsky's masterpiece Ivan's Childhood (1963), served as cinematographer. The film as a whole forcefully exhibits the Khrushchev-era notion of "socialism with a human face".
i've tried looking in the memories and can't find an answer... does anyone know any laws/guidelines for playing instruments on the street?
i've seen people playing buckets on 1st ave, trumpets on nicollet mall, etc...
specifically, i'd like to know if i could play a hand drum either in the skyway by the target center parking ramp, or on a bench on nicollet mall...
any thoughts? (besides, "beat it, hippie!" hah)
Me and my sweetie are looking for a weekend retreat spot. I'm looking for somewhere not too far (2 hours from the Twin Cities area) not too expensive, where food could be included (or we can bring our own) that will allow us some time in the outdoors (maybe geocaching) and comfortable and unique place. We don't need a TV but would like hottub, sauna or pool. We're really looking for some alone time where we can enjoy being together but that is also glbt friendly. We don't want to be around too many people. A retreat spot would be nice but most of them are faith based and aren't glbt friendly. A B and B might be okay but I don't want to spend too much.
Suggestions? Thanks in Advance!
My friend and fellow artist Kevin had this stolen from the building we are in.
I'm posting this info for him; any leads would be greatly appreciated.
