The Season 5 premiere of "Top Chef"
airs again at 8 tonight on Bravo
before a new episode at 9.

I failed to mention the return of "Top Chef" last week, so I'll let you know now that the Season 5 premiere of one of television's most mouthwatering programs re-airs at 8 tonight on Bravo, followed at 9 by the debut of the second episode.

In today's column, I focus on a few of the highlights of the St. Louis International Film Festival, which gets under way tonight.

Meanwhile, we have our own gala here in Columbia this weekend, as the new Bluebird Music and Arts Festival takes over town. The event loses a little juice with The Redwalls no longer involved, so acts such as Atmosphere, Big Smith and Ha Ha Tonka will have to do some heavy lifting to make the weekend a success. Chris Boeckmann has all the details you'll need here, here and here.

Now for a couple items I didn't get to in the paper:

? The eMusic Selects program — in which the Web's best indie MP3 retail destination exposes us to its favorite unsigned bands — recently unearthed what is likely its brightest gem yet in The Rural Alberta Advantage.

I'm completely hooked. And, no, the Neutral Milk Hotel and Arcade Fire comparisons are not really so outrageous.

That this Toronto band — with a number of stellar songs off 2008 debut LP "Hometowns" having first appeared on its self-titled 2006 EP — has flown under the radar is further evidence that, even in this era of oversaturation and überexposure, brilliance can still slip through the cracks.

Here are two MP3s, and a couple more tracks off "Hometowns" can be heard on the RAA's MySpace page:

MP3: "Frank, AB," The Rural Alberta Advantage

MP3: "Don't Haunt This Place," The Rural Alberta Advantage

? And for all of you "Lost" fans out there, in case you haven't yet heard, the new season begins Jan. 21.

The Mighty Underdogs are scheduled
to perform tonight at Mojo's.

As I cover in yesterday's column — after a quick reflection on Tuesday's historical happenings — you can create yourself a little concert crawl tonight, bouncing between Mojo's, The Blue Note and The Blue Fugue.

At those venues, respectively, are indie hip-hop supergroup The Mighty Underdogs (featuring Blackalicious' Gift of Gab, Latyrx's Lateef the Truth Speaker and the Crown City Rockers' Headnodic), Wolf Parade and former Drive-By Truckers guitarist/songwriter Jason Isbell.

ADDENDUM: Ragtag kicks off its run of "Rachel Getting Married" (synopsis and schedule) tonight with a special Missouri Theatre presentation. Show time is 8 p.m. 5:10 p.m.

After the polls close in a couple hours, it'll be time to celebrate, and there are plenty of places where you can do so tonight, including those with an artsy bent: The Blue Note, Mojo's — with Margot & The Nuclear So and So's — and Ragtag.

If you want to follow all of tonight's action through our intrepid crew here at the Tribune, keep glued to our main election page, Jason Rosenbaum's blog and/or our Twitter politics feed.

Not like you'll be doing anything else tonight, Wilco fans, but just in case, set the recording devices for Jeff Tweedy and the boys on "The Colbert Report" (10:30 p.m. Comedy Central).

UPDATE: Tweedy, then the band. 7:57 a.m. 10/31

Oh, and that guy you might go see speak on the Carnahan Quad instead — Obama? Here he is last night on "The Daily Show":

While I'm posting video, here are a couple additional offerings following up on items about which I've blogged recently, starting with one of the more entertaining skits from MU grad/"Mad Men" star Jon Hamm's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend:

"Jon Hamm's John Ham"

And then there's this extremely shaky but oh-so-rockin' footage from the Untamed Youth's performance at the Funtastic Drácula Carnival earlier this month in Valencia, Spain:

"She's So Satisfying"

"Pabst Blue Ribbon"

ADDENDUM: Unfortunately, the Funtastic audience member/amateur color filmmaker missed Deke doin' his beer volcano thing at the end of "Pabst." His/her B&W counterpart, however, captured the suds-spouting capper in all its glory. Check it out here. 7:31 a.m. 10/31

I'm more of a seat-of-the-pants hillsider, in that all my planning is done for me by Sherry et al.
