A Cappella Always and A Cappella Holiday: the all-a cappella radio stations
A capella Fest; a hefty feast for the years www.thejusticeonline.com If you were not in the Slosberg Auditorium Wednesday at 8 p.m., then you missed the opportunity to hear, see, experience and be engulfed in the harmoniously soulful reverie of wavy chord intervals, sailing cadences and vivacious body gyrations of a cappella ecstasy. It was the only time of the year to see all of the University's a cappella groups in one venue, underscoring the creative current that bursts through these walls upon the arrival of the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Arts. A Cappella Fest 2007 was primarily organized by Starving Artists with all proceeds going to the St. Joseph's Homes for Boys in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. I know what you're thinking: "a cappella and charity? The night must have been just one giant, warm and fuzzy bear hug." Well, it was. Read the full review here. Just when it seems as if The GrooveBarbers' legacy is destined to be our uncanny ability to pitch nasal anithistamines to seasonal allergy sufferers, we bust a pioneering high brow move with "doowOpera": a glorious hybrid of doowop and opera. As of this writing, the concert YouTube clip of "O Mio Babbino Caro" (from Puccini's opera Gianni Schicci), featuring us four aging warriors and the lovely soprano diva Inna Dukach (a.k.a. my bride), has garnered 20,000 hits in its first couple of weeks (doowopera.com points to the video). Call me a crazy pollyanna, but I think this could be The GrooveBarbers' "D*ck In A Box": a viral career-maker that will make us the universal object of female desire, male admiration and modern acapella scorn. In the past two weeks I've fielded dozens of requests for the vocal arrangement from opera directors and chorus masters from around the world. This is especially baffling, as I was heretofore unaware that the "internet" had gone international..
Deke Sharon wrote a great blog called “Summer Vacation A cappella Style” in which he lovingly paired fine music and classic drink. I suggested we expand on the idea in a manner more in keeping with my lowbrow ways, namely a drinking game. Samir Joshua Paul took the ball and started running with it, posting several suggestions for an a cappella ipod drinking game. Lest I be outdone, I give you….
Listeners are surprised when a local barbershop harmony group performs Sister Sledge’s 1979 hit “We Are Family.” The Smoky Mountain Harmony Show Chorus, a 75-voice group of female singers, performs pop, gospel and Broadway show tunes in addition to traditional barbershop songs. It’s all done in the barbershop singing style of a cappella, four-part harmony. Read the full article here. (http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2007/jul/01/group-bucks-barbershop-harmony-stereotype/).

. . . we’re just enjoying the last few weeks of summer vacation Unless you’re an overachieving wanker trying to graduate in three years, you don’t go to college in the summer. You waste time and money just hanging out. In an effort to emulate our students, we like to do the same [...]

I recorded my first CD of all A Capella tunes. My songwriting friends said they thought it was gutsy. But I had the voice to pull it off.
the music is ballads and chants. tell me what you think. I need reviews and testimonials if anyone is into it. thanks. jeanie

I recommend looking at the book "The Harmonic Experience" by W.A. Mathieu. It takes a very indepth look at the physical sensations of "being in tune", starting with the ability to drone unisons, octaves and other perfect intervals, and eventually working it's way to discerning the difference between non-well tempered intonations in eastern traditions. It's a remarkable work.

I can't believe I'm the only one...

Anyway, I'm a member of a group named Mac-Talla in The Washington, DC area, ( The original one; not the secondary group in Scotland, now disbanded. ), and a past National Award winner, ( I took third place first time out at The Scottish Mod in Ligoner, PA a few years back tying with past gold medal winners, [ There's more to this story. ] ), and it would be fun to create a group here in Oklahoma too.

Most Old Traditional Scottish songs were sung A Cappella whilst the performer was working, ( weaving, cooking, spinning, harvesting, etc. ), as well as performed this way for dance music. Nothing stops a Scott. After our fiddles and pipes were taken away as instruments of war and of the devil, we sang "Mouth Music". If no one joins me, I'll still not stop. However, I don't allow audiences in the shower. ;o)

My teachers have told me that there is no such thing as tone deaf. Absolutely anyone can learn to differentiate pitch. It just takes longer for some.
