Dear (best) Friends (forever),
The time has come for me to get married and this means two things: firstly, picking the wedding song, and secondly, spending less time in dodgy Romanian hotels that double as brothels.
In this case, these two things have come together as our first experience in a Romanian brothel as a couple happened to expose us to the song that we hope will be played first at our wedding. The problem, obviously, is that we don't know the title of the song, name of the artist, year of release, etc... Instead, we've got only a shifty recording of the future Roma-Romette singing the main harmony. We think.
The DJ that night played the same 5-6 songs on repeat for six hours...but only one song managed to cause the crowd of Romanian truck drivers to get up on stage, take off their shirts, and begin dancing with one another (totally ignoring the women who, upon seeing this, just sat down).
In our quest to find out information about it, we've started a massive email campaign, spent many hours furiously downloading Romanian mp3s and videos from YouTube, and stopped random Romanians in the street to beg for their assistance. Nothing worked.
Finally, I roped a friend of mine who speaks both Romanian and Hungarian (the song could be in either) into calling the Hotel Casablanca in Satu Mare and asking to speak with the DJ. We then proceeded to hum the song into the telephone for his listening pleasure but, unsurprisingly, he was not too interested in helping a bunch of people randomly calling from England (he did like the sound of my friend's voice, however, and told her that he might be able to help if she would just come by the club and meet him in person).
So it's come down to this: an audio posting of what we think the melody might be. I BEG all of you to link this post to as many blogs as possible as this is the only way we can maximize our wedding potential. You may be responsible for ensuring the everlasting happiness of two very sweet people (I promise), while failure to discover the origins of this song will likely result in a fragmentation on the relationship resulting in a double suicide on the eve of the wedding.
So please...listen and comment! Email me! Link this to your own page! I beg you!
Thanks kindly!!
Gabcast! RomaRomaRoma #0 - Mystery Song!
A Mystery Song. In Romanian. Or Hungarian.
Good luck, and may God be with you.
UPDATE: It should be mentioned that this song is definetely dance music, set to a medium to fast tempo beat, and it somewhere between dance and manele (turbofolk). There are folk elements to it but it's not totally discofolk or anything like that.
