A big, enthusiastic crowd (I heard people saying it was so good to see Great Big Sea back in Barrie over and over and over again - before, after, and during the show) and an energetic show...another great solo spot, this time by Bob (who really has a lovely voice, along with a very winning stage presence, and Brit's quite a good guitarist)...the return of Lukey, which more than made up for the inclusion of Donkey Riding (pretty cool little bodhran intro to DR, though)...those wonderful little Penelope lead solos...the "hits" version of Sea Of No Cares making for a refreshing change and also a sweet reminder (my first time in Barrie was for the SoNC tour)...Gallows Pole was clearly almost totally unexpected and blew that crowd away...nice folks everywhere (each time I've been to Barrie, the people here have been nice), only a few jerks, and even that only at the very end of the show...the sound was as good as you can get it in a rink and the lights were dazzling...absolutely nothing but rave reviews all around me the entire slow way up off the floor and out the venue.
Alan looked like he was having a grand time up there, as did they all. He looked like it was going well and most of all he looked like he was in the exact place where he most wants to be. And he was wonderful. All I need. So what else can I say other than that I loved the show? There are times when sweet and simple is the best course to take, the only course to take.
Now to get back into and through Toronto before it begins to snow there because I for sure do not want to miss the Hamilton show and Alan's solo. If the news reports are to be believed, it looks as if TO panics even more about a bit of snow than Seattle and Vancouver do. Perhaps the Army will be called in to keep order.
