so, i signed up for that "mybart" thingy a few weeks back. unfortunately, i did not win the tickets to the marilyn manson/slayer concert that they were giving away last week. i signed up to win tix to the friday, september 14th A's game however, which consists of a luxury box for 24 people. i have decided that if i win i will give most of the tickets to my bartrage peeps. we can make it our first official get together and maybe even tailgate beforehand. if anyone else wants to sign up to win tix as well, we can increase our chances of winning. The following is from the contest web page:

Win 24 tickets to our A's Luxury Suite and watch the A's in style! The games take place at the McAfee Coliseum in Oakland on the following dates:

Friday, September 14 at 7:05pm
Saturday, September 15 at 12:55pm
Tuesday, September 18 at 7:05pm

Enter to win one of them, or all three! You will have access to the Luxury Suite, located in the PLAZA section, which includes rows of stadium seating, televisions, a couch, a kitchenette and an enormous sliding glass window giving you the best view of the game!

It's now just over 7 hours before the Bay Bridge... the third busiest in North America... is closed for the entire weekend. I know it's a vital artery of the Bay Area (I prefer taking BART but will take the bridge to the City if needed) and this is sure to impact a great many people.

As most of you are aware, BART will be running round-the-clock service to limited stations.

Those stations are:

? Bay Fair
? Downtown Berkeley
? Concord
? Dublin/Pleasanton
? El Cerrito Del Norte
? Fremont
? Lake Merritt
? MacArthur (AC Transit Transfer Point)
? Coliseum/Oakland Airport
? Pittsburg/Bay Point
? Richmond
? Rockridge
? Walnut Creek

PENINSULA:
? Colma
? Millbrae
? San Francisco International Airport

SAN FRANCISCO:
? 24th Street/Mission
? Balboa Park
? Embarcadero
? Montgomery
? Powell

Ferry service is also in place, and AC Transit will be running service from MacArthur station. There won't be any AC Transit Transbay service...

What are everyone's plans for this weekend? Are you going to take the all-nighter service? Prefer to stay away from BART at night? Taking the ferry? Going out of town to avoid the mess all together?

I think that this will be an interesting experiment... and will test the BART-all-night feasibility doctrine.

I thought all the idiots were supposed to ride during the last two "Spare the Air" days? I was mentally prepared for it and both of those rides were fine.

First we have the more than capable couple trying badly to use the handicap/bike gate. I let them know, nicely, that the standard gates are much easier and faster to use.

Then we had the hoochie wanna be who needs to keep the cheeseburgers out of her mouth blasting headphones. She's giving everyone that looks at her the "whatchu lookin at" face. When passengers applaud at her exit in San Leandro, the big "I'm such a badass" scowl.

At Coliseum, there is the crowd in front of the door as I'm trying to exit. My egress is blocked by some dude in a fuzzy sweat suit that looked more like PJs. So I just stood half way out the door *with my bike* and looked at all of them. Nobody moves. Show down at the Bart corral. Finally someone stands aside and I can exit with a snarky "excuse me" right at Jam-Master Jay.

Sheesh. I should have driven today.

On everything afternoon/evening ride home this week, the trains A/C have been pretty much non-existent. In the cars, not only is it hot and without ventilation, the stench of rider's halitosis is unbearable. It literally smells like camels-breath and that is not intended to be racist.

I notified the T/O twice and he told me he would "note the problem" not sounding empathetic or reassuring. Granted two mornings this week we rode free. BUt should we be satisfied with just "I'll note it"?

2007-08-30 18:20:48

Anybody know why the Spare the Air days have been, basically, half days this year on BART? The free rides have been ending at 1PM... Seems to me that it's not as effective a strategy, and that it's not going to convince as many people to ditch their cars for the whole day. If I had a car that I used every day, it wouldn't make sense for me to lose it just for a one-way ride. Feeling the sting of the return trip ticket would probably be enough to sour me on the whole thing. It's supposed to be a Spare the Air DAY, not a Spare the Air MORNING, right?

Of course, I could just be whining because I bought a MUNI monthly pass this month, so have not been able to take advantage of this... Oh cruel gods, how you taunt me!

2007-08-30 11:19:44

i know in the past we have discussed why bart police need police cars, but why do they need a police truck? at walnut creek there is a dodge ram bart police pickup truck.

my brother in law is a sherrif in nevada county - i can understand why he might need a truck with lights and sirens instead of a car. but a bart police truck? in walnut creek?

there must be a logical explanation: a) a pickup might be cheaper than a sedan? b)perhaps they need it so they can drive on the tracks to confront the suicidal citizens of walnut creek? or c) maybe they have a cage that they put in the back to transport repeat offenders caught eating on bart? but if that was the case, wouldn't they need a bart police forklift to get the cage into the bed? i have not seen a forklift with lights and sirens near the wc station, so i am guessing that reason "c" is not correct. anyone care to fill me in?

Any recognize this lady? She was on the Dublin/Pleasanton train #1856 from SFO/Millbrae around 6:30 pm this evening sitting on the handicap/elderly seat with her young daughter.

I told her to stop eating, and she told me to mind my business. I said it is my business. Part of my fare goes toward cleaning up after slobs like her.

Unfortunately this pic doesn't show her munching away and them wiping their greasy hands all over the seat and handrails. She and her kid got off at Fruitvale.

While doing some random web surfing (after looking up the Ferry schedule) I found a interesting page comparing the "Relative energy efficiency of ferries, cars, buses and trains"

http://www.well.com/user/pk/waterfront/Ferry/BTU.htm

& It sure makes BART look good....

I wonder how the numbers look like it they averaged in the empty trains as well as opposed to a "full passenger load".

2007-08-29 11:52:53

I returned from living abroad in Amsterdam a few months ago, and really enjoyed biking around and not needing a car. Things are a bit different here, and (as a consultant) there's really no way for me to get everywhere I need to be during the week using a bike and/or public transit. That being said, I do commute into the city 2-3 days a week which is a great opportunity for me to abandon my car for the day.

Too bad BART hates me.

I'd love to ride my bike to the Fremont Station, and then bike to work once I arrive. Bart doesn't provide dedicated space on trains for bikes, and I understand that this inconveniences everyone. I'm willing to settle for riding to the Fremont station, lock it up, and just use MUNI when I arrive in the city.

The good news? BART offers bike lockers for the astounding price of $15 for 3 months. I inquired, and the waiting list is ... over a year.

?!?!?!!??!?!

To recap:

  1. BART wants people to ride BART
  2. BART likes the environment (spare the air and all that)
  3. BART doesn't provide dedicated space on trains for bikes
  4. Because of #3, BART disallows bikes on trains during commute hours, which effectively means no bikes on BART.
  5. BART parking at Fremont is full, they're going to start charging, and (presumably) would like people to get to the station some other way.
  6. BART has lockers for bikes, but might as well not have any, since there aren't enough and you can't ever get them.

This is just silly. BART needs to really re-think things. If you don't want people on BART with bikes, I can sympathize. In that case, there need to be more lockers, and they need to charge some sort of market price for them. It's no wonder the waiting list is a year, since at that rate I'd hold onto mine forever. Some of them should probably be first-come-first serve, digital coded lockers (think airport lockers).

It'd be better for everyone. Lockers take up a helluva lot less area than parking spaces, and I'm sure commuters would rather cyclists lock those things up instead of carrying them on BART.

Until then, there's one less parking space at Fremont BART...

Today's the perfect day to practice taking pictures of dumbasses with your camera phones. I already got one, I'll post the results later.

Ooh! We should have a Transit Transients photo gallery!

Why hasn't anyone posted this? I saw it on a Wheels bus display.

2007-08-28 09:42:41

Back Story:

19st Station Railway walls were painted a few months ago with blue in the top section. Looks like they hired some painters to finish the job up and paint the lower section white to match. Only problem is, they (bart) hired idiot painters who ghosted white all over the blue.

What is the point now? Are they going to redo the blue again?

Why were idiots hired to paint in the first place?

They Blue and White combo looks very nice and spruces up our failing/ugly Rapid Transit System. But now, it doesn't look any better. Just pure shoddy.

2007-08-28 01:16:44

Just a little reminder to the T/O's to check the window latches before you leave the cabin.

At about 4:30pm August 27th, there was a Fremont Train with the Lead Car's window at the back of the train open. (A Type Car) That's not good. When it finally registered in my auto-pilot head at the time, the train was leaving. A Richmond train came in and I asked that operator to contact that Fremont train and give the operator a heads up.

In case you wanna know what car it was, it's # 1260.

You're still doing a great job T/O's. See yall on the rails.

If your interested in what a tourist thinks of BART, check out this recent post (7/28/07) on Virtual Tourist.com.

There are a number of BART hassles in terms of ticketing which can't be figured out looking at the machine... 1) Only one credit card transaction permitted per day on BART ticket machines. So, buy all your tickets at once or risk the need to dig for cash for the next ticket purchase. 2) Extra fare required if a stop is made along the route. We took a friend to the airport, and on the return decided to stop at the Powell street station for a quick walk to Union Square and back. When we reached our destination at the Dublin-Pleasanton station we couldn't get past the gate. The ticket direct from SFO to Dublin-Pleasanton station was cheaper than if we stop off along the way. We had to add $2.55 in value to our ticket for the luxury of stopping along the way. I consider that an expensive stop in terms of ride value. 3) BART help kiosk will vary in terms of flexibility and friendliness. We've been let through the gate for lack of fare, and have also been given sacreligious remarks, "Jez Christ, man, it's obvious" for our confusion on this system. If you have a complaint, they can be filed on-line or by comment cards distributed at the kiosk. 4) In addition to all of the above, the machines often fail to do what they are supposed to, so approaching the kiosk for help is common. Bathroom lines are often long, and can't be accessed until you are a ticketed passenger inside the gate. The facilities are solo occupancy type bathrooms, so expect to wait in line. If you come to a BART station on a bicycle, locate the bicycle parking racks INSIDE the ticketed area for increased security. The bicycle must be securely locked, or expect to find it gone when you return.

What were they expecting?

Last night I saw a twenty-ish year old guy put gum on the seat next to him so that no one else can sit next to him. I didn't stop him because I wanted to see how this scenario would play out. By the time we hit Civic Center the train was full. Every person that was attempting to sit next to him was stopped. He said - watch out there's gum on that seat.
So, they would frown and walk away. Then this 70ish year old asian women came along and she wanted to sit. He gave her the same warning. She stood there for a second and without missing a beat - she pulled a napkin out of her purse and collected the gum in it. She looked at the chair again and there was no trace of the gum at all. Seems like the jerk forgot to work the gum into the seat. Therefore the gum was still in a very easy to pick up state. She sat down next to him and the look in his face was priceless. He was pissed. HAHA
Seems like the jerks trick didn't work that well for him.

This morning an older butch looking woman sat next to me. She looked like my godmother.
She looked over at me and smiled. Slowly this really strong smell of booze and perfume came from her. Damn lady having a morning cocktail this early? WTF? You must be the boss at your company.

2007-08-24 11:04:59

Can we blame them cause there's no garbage cans around on the platform? Seems like this person had a pastry and juice this morning. Maybe there wasn't time to eat, scoop all the newspapers up, run to the garbage can, deposit garbage, run back and catch the train. I hope this person made their train. I really hope they did.

Damn that was a lot of sarcasm - even for me

2007-08-24 10:57:19

4 years of Academy of Art College and this is what you give me? WTF? No, I can't do better, but I can hire someone who can.

What is it with Bio parents that they never communicate unless they want something? I try to let my ex know everthing that is going on with my kids from Dr apts to school functions yet DH ex never lets us know anything for instance today SD6 had an appointment with the heart Dr (she has a problem since she was born and goes once a year) but BM never let us know about it. We found out because DH parents were suppose to have SD6 for the day and her mom called and told them she forgot SD6 had an appointment and asked if they wanted her Thursday instead. WTF hellooo dump ass how about letting her dad know about these appointments. About the whole DH parents having her for the day BM called them a month or so ago (they live in the same town about 20 min from us) and told them SD had been having a fit because she doesn't see them very much anymore and wanted to know if they would like to keep her on Tuesday and Wed. on the weeks she is with her during the summer. WTF DH parents can't stand her they never got along, when they were still married DH was permited to take his daughter to see his parents for 2hrs once a week and that was it, they were not aloud to babysit or just get her for the day and now this woman is calling and asking them if they want to spend time with her. Last summer before DH moved in with me his parents kept SD6 while he worked Mon-Fri so since he moved SD6 doesn't get to see them as much but she never mentions them to us, if she did we would make sure she got to see them. Seems to me her life is not as great as she tries to make it seem she is trying to get on her ex inlaws good side. The sad part is SD6 doesn't have a set babysitter she is bounced from one person to the next never knowing who is keeping her when there is no school or who is picking her up from school. But Bm had her new baby in a local daycare, sounds to me like she is just to cheap to pay a babysitter for both of them.

2007-08-22 03:16:56

then board the train; you suck. first you throw your bottle spilling its contents all over the platform, then you walk over to where the first car on the 10 car train or by the handicapped elevator and pee for three minutes. you make sick. i wished the train operator would have done something.

hi to all, for those that have read my previous blogs you'll know that my sd and i have grown together...
i was talking to a friend recently who has just become a step mother of a 3 year old boy and a 6 year old girl and she was telling me of the differences between just dating her new hubby to now being in the family house. she said her and the little one get on like a house on fire and yet the 6 year old wont even look at her let alone listen to her or follow any instructions given by her.

This afternoon with temps roaring into the 90's in SF and in the triple digits inland, BART trains had NO A/C. Train #446 from SF to Dublin a prime example of this. 630pm train was absolutely packed. People sweating all over each other. No AC!!!

The T/O was having fun in his A/C seat. FUcking T/O starting and stopping the trains in between stations just to see riders stumble all over each other. One guy was thrown all the way across the train and landed his sweat soaked body on top of me.

Everyone was sweating. The handrails all were wet with sweat. THe seats were all soaked with wet stinky sweat. THe whole train stunk like ammonia and urine.

Geez BART, get a fucking clue will ya?!

2007-08-21 22:03:05

i know each of us all have our own limits and pet annoyences be it with our partners, our friends and family, our children, our step children and then external people but what are some of the things you simply can not stand be it bad language you know like the f word, or is it being rude, ignoring another, trashing bed rooms, cutting you off in lines at the store...

2007-08-21 22:01:57

When they started spilling the beans on BM. Again she took the 2 youngest kids to a counselor to try to say we beat them. This woman makes me sick. She is trying to make it out like the children have all of these "anger issues" and there is something wrong with THEM!!! On top of that try to get them to lie against their own father!!! There is nothing wrong with SKIDS outside of the BS that they go through with BM. They are happy, do great in school, and are very out going. My SS is one of the most happy go lucky children I have ever seen. My parents call him a big teddy bear because he is so lovable. Yet this bitch is trying to convince him he has anger issues only to try to retaliate against DH for pursuing a raise in CS. Unbelievable. I knew she was messing with their heads and now has some quack messing with their heads as well. I was proud of DH. He flat out told her he didn't appreciate her taking the children to a Counselor without consulting with him since he has the physical custody. I am not sure of what he can do. We will speak to our Attorney tommorrow. Funny she didn't take the oldest child to a counselor. He may just actually tell her to cut the crap out. He is the one who spilled the beans on BM.

2007-08-21 20:50:25

I need an answer that makes sense - Why do people who are NOT getting on the Muni/BART train stand right in front of the door??!?!!? Not two feet from the entrance. Just standing there... WTF? I missed two trains last week due to these people. By the time I was stopped abruptly and got around them the doors shut. POW! To the moon!

2007-08-21 20:07:46

By many contributors here is our story so far....

Once upon a time there was a lovely lady who met a handsome man...they fell in love and they married....everything seemed like it was going so well...they had so much fun together. One day there was a knock at the door and the lovely lady opened the door and there were two small children standing there. They were beautiful children, with big round innocent eyes and soft hair and as she gazed upon them she felt like they looked familiar... the boy child had a note pinned to his shirt?she reached down and took the note and read it...

2007-08-21 18:09:47

Here comes the deprogramming and the endless hours of listening to the antics of BM while throwing up a little in my throat as I am hearing it. Sigh....I don't think I have the patience right now. Is it terrible that I really haven't missed them? Well I can't really say I haven't missed them I just don't miss the drama and the trauma that goes with their BM.

2007-08-21 16:47:53

As always, I am starting this post by reassuring everyone (actually myself) that I adore SD. But if I don't vent right now, I am going to throw her out the damn window!!!!!!!!!!! She has been out of control as usual. But I am so pissed off right now. BD and I were laying on my bed coloring. SD wanted to join us. I gave her some paper to put under what she was coloring because we were using markers. I told her that if she got marker on the bed she would be in trouble. Well, she decided to color all over my bed. Then she hid it by laying on top of it so I couldn't see. When I turned around, she grabbed her paper and everything looked fine. Then she scooted up closer to me. Aw, I thought she wanted to snuggle. Stupid me. Why would this devil child EVER want to be nice to me. She started coloring again and this time on my comforter. I reminded her that if she got any on the bed, she would be in trouble. She grabs the marker... did I mention it was red? My comforter is like a light mint with taupe.... Yeah, shows up like a friggin rainbow. Ok, she grabs the marker when I turn my head and intentionally marks the bed. I yelled "Madison, why did you do that?????" I dunno was her answer. I told her to get up, put her markers away and go in a time out. She didn't want to get up. Of course not, her body was covering the 10 x 14 inch area that she covered in red marker. I wanted to beat her senseless!!!!!! But instead I told her to put her markers away and go to her room. I needed time to cool off. I finished coloring with BD, then walked into the living room. Guess who is sitting at the coffee table with her lovely red marker? Yup, she decided to color my coffee table. Let me remind you, this is NOt a 2 or 3 year old. She is almost six. I calmly asked her why she was not in her room and what reason she had for coloring my table? I dunno. Same shitty answer I always get. I told her to get to her room until her father got home, then I would let him spank her (he never does, but when she disrespects me that is the only thing that makes her listen. I HATE spanking. I will not do it. But I am also not going to continue to be hated and disrespected in my own home) She started screaming at me. She has been in her room for an hour screaming. DH called to find out how everything was and I told him. He just let out a long sign, said he would be home as soon as possible. GOOD. Let him deal with rotten little child that HE created! And all of this happens after I spend an hour in a psychaitrist's office fighting over the fact that I do not want my child to be put on medication. Well, I guess the doctor was right. They all win.... Medicate her, do whatever it takes to get her to act like a normal child.

2007-08-21 16:08:47

What is up with this attitude I keep getting from BF about just "getting over it?' It's like when I come to him and say what is hurting me...how I feel about the psycho drama all I get it ""What do you want me to do about it?" and just "get over it?" like I asked for this?

We don't ever - EVER - hear from the skids' mom. I mean E-V-E-R. In the past two years, she has called us one time. She sent us pictures of the kids one time. She emailed us maybe three times in response to something that I sent her first. That's it. We NEVER hear from her. Since we moved out of state and cannot get visitation at this distance, there's no reason for us to talk to her or for her to talk to us. She never asks DH anything about the kids, never includes him in anything, never talks to him about them, never wants him to know about or have anything to do with the skids. She wants him out of sight, out of mind. But today she emailed. Gee, she must want something. Go figure.

2007-08-21 12:08:51

My story. I have three beautiful step daughters and two wonderful boys of my own. We are well adjusted to each other except the ex wife. She is a beast. You name it, she's probably done it. From trying to move away with the girls to not letting my husband have them for his normal parenting time. After an ugly ugly divorce two and a half years ago, she has filed a motion to increase her parenting time in hopes for more money.

We just switched our ISP, telephone and television providers from AT&T with DishNetwork and SBC/Yahoo internet to a package from Optimum. (Where we live, the DishNetwork was a waste of money due to interference and signal loss, so we said screw it and got cable.)

i come on here every other day or so and some times i have a lot to say some times nothing but each time i stop and read the words of others and i think some times it is just so sad.
many of the words used to discribe our situations are angry, hurtful, sad, desperate and on a rare occasion a few happy ones but i can't help to think we are all wonderful, strong people yet we all seem to be hurting in major or minor ways but hurt none the less. what have we as a community done to be afflected this way, my faults are that i loved a man and wanted to share a life with him but due to coming in after the ex my love is shadowed and taited by the cruelty of another and why she chose to leave him should she not care where his life goes now, yet this is not so and for other what are your "crimes" that you are being punished for stepping in and loving an already discarded person have and once of happiness.

2007-08-21 07:08:51

Just when I thought I'd heard it all. My DH is the primary custodian. BM has EOW visitation and during her last visitation she was watching Hannah Montanna with SD10 & SD6. SD6 asked "what happened to Hannah Montanna's mom?" and SD10 says "she died." Then...BM says "I hope your f#cking stepmother dies soon. Maybe I can make it happen. You know the devil is going to take her and your dad."

I have created a new section called "NEED Bart Attention!"

The purpose of this is to use this site for "positive" communications from riders to BART employees. If you see problems that need addressed, please post it in the proper section and hopefully BART can use this useful information to remedy the issue. I know they already have a system to address issues but adding our site doesn't hurt either.

I have heard a lot about this lately. Something about BART selling the land to develop more housing and businesses. BART real estate is supposed to be getting a good chunk of change for this deal. There is a research article on SF GATE about it, heres the link: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2007/08/16/state/n076857E94.DTL. I tried to ask more about this, but they were NOT very receptive. Basically what i gatehered from the article was that BART only has a contract with the current "transit village" in dublin to be operable through 2011. Which is the same time the new dublin BART station opens. BART will then take the eastern extension into close concideration, with hopes of opening a livermore station by 2025. Supposedly the money from the sale of the current Dublin station will help fund the research needed for the extension, but not the actual extension itself. I think this is a great idea! Its about time we get BART service in my neck of the woods. I am a little concerned about how this is going to work though. Anyone else know more about this?

Riding into the Fruitvale station, from the south, one gets a spectacular veiw of the parking lot from overhead.

Really a great view.
Suitable for a post card.

I don't think I've ever seen as much broken automobile glass in one area than I have when traveling over the Fruitvale parking lot.

WTF??!!??

Is it Oakland's answer to the Crop Circle hype?

Or...

Is it that peoples shit is getting broken into over at Fruitvale?

I myself spotted 4 broken windows on the ground.
And that's while cruising about 30 mph overhead.

This morning getting out of the San Bruno parking lots crowded elevator I noticed a lady almost slipping on a plastic bag. I stood back for a bit and noticed there was trash everywhere when you get out of the elevators on the first floor. This has been an ongoing thing because the wind creates a tornado affect in that particular corner. Thus any trash that's around gets sucked up by the mini tornado and accumulates there. I don't mind the design flaw that was made when designing this garage. I would just like BART to come by and clean this up more often. At least more than once a day.

Missy please move your bike to the side like everyone else. I think this is an unwritten rule.

As you can see she is blocking both handicapped seats. At the next stop the train started to get crowded. I missed the chance to take another shot when an older lady told her to "move your bike please." The funny thing is that she was blasting her ipod and knew exactly what the older lady was asking of her. Missy stood up and moved to the door to leave at the next stop and she did.

At Dublin/Pleasanton station in the morning, when a train pulls up for the SFO trip, the doors open briefly (about a 30 seconds or less) and then close for 5 minutes. Then before departure, the doors open again to let people board.

Why can't the doors just stay open? The little TO booths are always locked, so its not like someone can just hop on and drive it away while the new TO is walking up to the front of the train.

Just curious.

Police arrested Kenneth Ray Burton of San Francisco last year after he allegedly began masturbating in front of a woman on a Bay Area Rapid Transit train.

And Yippee!! I say.

It is nice to drive in once and a while.
Not much traffic this morning.
I cool drive around San Pablo Reservoir.
Through the tunnell (sp?)
Warren Fwy was cool.
580 was 'ayright.
Only problem was downtown Hayward.
The jewel of the East Bay.

Going home might be different it's still just 3:20 pm.
So, I'm sure traffic is gonna suck on the way back.

Fuck it...
I 'aint leaving till 4:20

it should be 'ayright

I have a great Idea!!

Lets all get on a crowded 10:15am SF bound train, take up two seats, then have lunch?

I have to confess the curry did smell good though....

I've been riding BART well over a decade, and just recently purchased a bike for my commute (about 2 months ago) and bike to BART, hop on BART with my bike, and then ride to office. I found BARTRage last night and I'm not surprised by all the complaints about cyclists. Yes, I agree there are boneheads that don't respect the rules and other riders, but don't judge all cyclists by this small percentage of idiots. I read the rule book and analyzed the 'bike friendly' schedule months prior to deciding to even purchase a bike. With all the complaints here and the animosity I feel with station agents (once for just processing my ticket a few minutes before bikes are allowed in the station - I was going to stand at the elevator until the allowed time! SHEESH!), I wanted to acknowledge the cyclists who DO FOLLOW THE RULES AND RESPECT FELLOW RIDERS. [pat's self on the back]

Please don't express rage on ALL cyclist. Some of us will actually move out of the way for you! Remember, I used to be on your side of the fence.

And do remember, you'll almost never see the respectable cyclist because he/she is not on the train when bikes are not allowed. (unless you're on the train during this time ;-) )

I apologize if I've gotten in anyone's way, but please respect my right to bring my bike on BART (when allowed, of course).

Can any escalator techs tell me why the escalator on the south end of Millbrae platforms 1 and 2 has been out of service for over a year?

What ever happened to common courtesy? Everyday in the almost-SRO train I take, I see the same riders sitting in aisle seats with the adjacent window seat open (or with a small purse or backpack on it). Are these people so ignorant that they can't move their belongings over or shift over one seat so others can sit? When I ask them if I can have a seat, I always get an annoyed look from them seemingly saying, "Who do you thing you are? I'm too important to move myself (or my ever so-important stuff) for you." C'mon people; it's public transit! Share the space!

Any suggestions as to how to approach these annoying riders? I've paid for my over-priced Bart ticket. I feel I should at least deserve an open seat.

This guy would not even move his bike out of the way for people boarding the train.

(this was a Richmond -> SF train around 10:15 am

Sometimes when I go to a thread people's avatars will have big chunks of white over them? Is this on purpose? What gives? (see attached)
