A TALE OF TWO CITIES

Does anyone know why police seem to have blocked off Park Avenue from Lake to about 26th St? I can't find anything in the news and it seems like an awfully large area to be blocked off.

Anyone hear anything more on this? Was anyone there? What happened? It hasn't been reported on anywhere but City Pages and Indymedia that I've found, but I've seen some photos.

As you folks are part of the internet blogging community I'll assume that many of you have likely heard some of the potentially alarmist buzz online surrounding the Bush administration's plans to gear up for war with Iran. The accuracy of alarmist theories aside, I'm wondering if anyone has caught wind of Iran-specific anti-war protests happening soon in the Twin Cities area.

I know there are lots of anti-war/pro-peace groups in the TC and, while I'm not usually one to show up to protests, I feel strongly enough to support specific action on this issue.

I have an acupuncturist that I love, but I can't get to her during the work week. So...

Any recommendations for a good acupuncturist in Downtown Minneapolis?

I need a loving home for my kitty!



My boyfriend is moving in at the end of September, and between us, we have three cats -- my condo just isn't big enough for the three of them. Thus, we have decided to try to find a new home for Ivy. She's adorable and affectionate, but she does get a little attention hungry at times. :) Some basic info: she's 8 years old, med-long hair, has her claws, and is current with vaccines. She doesn't have a problem with clawing up furniture -- a scratching post pretty much does the trick. She's more or less fine around other cats, but she tends to be very dominant -- she might be best off alone from other pets, if possible.

The humane society isn't an option for me -- I want to be confident that she is going to a loving home. She is an indoor cat, and always has been, so I would like her to go to someone who is okay with this. Along with kitty, I'll provide a scratching post and kitty carrier, and her vet records.

If you are not able to or have no interest in adopting Ivy, please pass this along to any friends you think may be interested. I have more photos upon request. :)

EDIT: This is not a decision that I have made lightly. I am an animal lover, and I love my cats, and while it's not ideal to part with any of them, it's the way it has to be right now. I've made every effort to keep her in my network of those that I love, but with no success. I turn to this community in hopes of finding a sympathetic cat lover who understands, and is willing to take her in and give her the care she deserves. I'm heartbroken to part with Ivy, and I know it makes me a shitty parent, but I'm doing the best that I can with what I am given.

I am currently looking for a general physician and a gynecologist in the Excelsior/Chanhassen area. I have been using the Chanhassen Park Nicollet clinic for urgent care, but I would like to find a regular doctor (either at Park Nicollet or somewhere else - I think my insurance covers most of the major clinics). Does anyone have any recommendations? I would prefer to stay in Excelsior or Chanhassen, but I am willing to go to Waconia or Chaska or possibly Eden Prairie or Minnetonka.

I checked the memories, and this wasn't really listed.

I need some electrical work done to my car.  That hopefully will not cost me an arm and a leg. 

Apparently, the previous owner of my vehicle installed an alarm system, but disconnected it.  But when disconnecting it, he didn't correct the wiring.  So most everything is still spliced.  :(

My headlights went out.  Switched the lights out, and guess what, still out.  So I would be looking for a good place to take my car to de-splice my car. She's an 87 Buick Century. My hibeams work though, surprised no one's flashed me yet.

Anybody have any ideas?

I have two items from Crate and Barrel that I would like to get rid of. One is the Bodum electric tea kettle in red. It has only been used about ten times--like new condition. It retails for $50, I would like $35 for it.

I also have a Crate and Barrel BRAND NEW wok. It is large with a wooden handle. It is out of the box, but I still have all of the accessories for it. As a bonus, I'll throw in a few bamboo steamers that also have never been used. I don't know what it retails for, since Crate and Barrel no longer has it on their website, but I would like to get $75 (OBO) for it.

Make offers of trade, too! I like gift cards to restaurants (no coupons that expire, please!), iTunes cards, Target, etc... And I like handheld electronics, like a Game Boy Advance with brighter screen options. I also need a copy of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons for my Gameboy. Mine was stolen a few weeks ago (with the GBA!) and I'd like to replace it.

I've been trying to find a drive-in near Minneapolis. According to Google, they're all way out on the east side of St. Paul, but I swear somebody told me there was one closer to the Uptown area than that. Does anybody know of any other theaters?

And, if not, how do you find out what's playing at the Maple Leaf and when? They don't seem to have a Web site.

I'll be moving to the St. Paul Midway area next month (near Hamline U), and I'm looking for new haunts. Specifically, I want to know your favorite take-out/delivery place, restaurant, coffee shop and grocery store, as well as any completely awesome hidden gems I should know about. I've lived in the Minneapolis area for the past four years, so I'm not starting completely from scratch here, but I'm interested in my new neighborhood. Thanks!
