I've recently been assigned the duties of cleaning up and decommissioning several old web proxies at work (a sizable financial institution, employing about 8000 people in MN). Since I had the logfiles in front of me, I thought I'd see how many hits there were to livejournal. I'm amused that I know more than half the folks on this list.
Here's the high-score table:

Which restaurants are the best to work for?
Which ones will give a n00b a chance (Craigslist turns up a lot, but they seem to want a whole lot of experience)?
Which will be most friendly to a college student's ever-changing schedule?

All this insane construction in the NE Suburbs has finally hit close to home.
Quite literally.
My house backs up to a lovely wooded wetland area. I love it. Lots of privacy and cute wildlife. Plus it's pretty in the autumn.
There's a gas station quite far behind the trees, and now there are plans to expand it and put in an auto repair shop RIGHT ON MY FENCE LINE. And every other house on the block. None of us want it here.
I've talked to the guy who's building the thing. He left us all nice folders about how he wants to be "part of the community". He stopped by to talk and basically told me I'm SOL and I should be happy it's not a strip-mall. I asked him how HE'D like an auto shop in HIS back yard and he said that he'd like it just fine. Whatever.
I talked to the City of Shoreview and to the Rice Creek Watershed District, both of which have to approve this. Both said that their job is to HELP the guy get approval to build it! The area is zoned for commercial development, and it seems there are no laws saying that the noise, smells, and sights can't spill out into my house.
So, before I go to the TV stations and whore this all over the news so that I can hopefully get these guys enough bad press, is there anyone else I should be talking to? Any organisation that's actually there to PROTECT the natural area and/or, you know, people? Anyone have resources on getting sites rezoned? Anyone know how to get a really good boycott going?

I'm looking for a vet in the Roseville area. I used to go to a vet in the western suburbs, but I think I really need somewhere closer to where I live. My cats generally get a bit stressed out in car rides and I don't expect a big car ride would do either of them much good if they are sick. Basically, I'm just interested in recommendations for the Roseville area. Ideally I'm interested in places that have reasonable prices, friendly service, can take walk-ins, and has hours that go beyond the regular 9-5. I know I probably won't find a place that has all of these, so really any recommendation would be great. Thanks so much.

So, other than the 18+ First Ave "80's" Halloween Party thrown by The Onion and Radio K, the "Zombie Night" party thing going on at Ground Zero (and of course the Ozzy/Rob Zombie concert at the Target Center) what other bar/clubs are throwing a decent Halloween party on the 31st?

I'm looking to sell a collection of coins I have, but wanted to see if anyone else has done so in the past and would care to share good or bad experiences with collectors/dealers in the Twin Cities. I'm hoping to get it appraised first and possibly get multiple appraisals to get the best bang for the buck, as it were.
Thanks!

I know this is a long shot but here I go...
My friends andI was in an Airport Taxi cab last night, a maroon minivan with the number 444 on the back seat, and I left my camera in the "very" back seat(2 rows of back seats). It is a Canon SD700 IS "pocket sized" camera. If you scroll through the pictures you will see pictures of my fiance dress as Harley Quinn and myself as The Joker from last nights Halloween party at Cuzzy's.
The taxi dropped us off just after 3:15 am. If anyone found it PLEASE, PLEASE give me a call, there is a reward involved. (612)227-9336
Thank you
Juan

When someone has a party, and chooses to play the music for that party at sound decibels that exceed reasonable standards, you shouldn't be surprised if you receive a visit from our friendly boys-in-blue asking you to keep it down. And if you choose not to keep it down, don't be surprised to be slapped with a misdemeanor conviction and a fine.
Don't get me wrong. I have absolutely nothing against having a party -- heck, we have parties of our own. But we make sure that the sounds emanating from our home don't disturb our neighbors when we have the party.
What I have a problem with is noise that continues at unreasonable levels later than 10:00 pm. According to Minneapolis ordinances, 10:00 pm is the cut-off for requiring lower noise levels. Now, I don't usually complain about it until it gets later than 11:30pm since I realize that people need time to have fun.
But not everybody works on the same schedule as the people who are partying.
Think about how you would like it if someone who lived next to you was partying with loud music until the wee hours of the morning when you have to wake up before dawn the next day.
And when I can hear the music from your party clearly (as if I were right next to the stereo), and your party is two blocks away -- and it is NOT a live band -- then we have a problem.
It's not too much to ask to actually have people think about how they are impacting the people around them. In this day and age of ecological awareness, you have to remember that NOISE pollution is still pollution.

My car's battery crapped out on me this morning and I ended up at the Goodyear service station on Lake and Park. I have never been there before today but I will definitely be going back. The guys were very friendly and got to work on my car immediately. They insisted on doing a diganostic (I walked in and asked for a new battery), but ended up waiving the fee for the diagnostic when it turned out all I needed was a new battery. I was in and out in less than 3 hours, and it would have been faster but my Focus needed a special battery that they didn't have in stock so they had to wait for it to be delivered. I swear they apologized for the wait a donzen times and it was not even their fault. (and honestly I was just so relieved it was not the alternator I didn't care)
Fast, friendly and HONEST mechanics are hard to come by. These guys rock.

Seems like I'm doing this about every six months, but I was successful the last time I inquired here.
I have a room for rent in my house starting December 1st. The property is two blocks kitty-corner from the VA Hospital in southern Minneapolis.
-Rent is only $450/month, and that includes all utilities. The lease is six months on a renewable basis.
-The house is about a ten-minute walk from the VA light rail station. If you work anywhere off the light rail, you would not have to drive.
-Cable TV, on-site laundry, and wireless internet access are all included.
You would be living, and sharing a bathroom with two single men in their late 20's. Unfortunately, I cannot offer you off-street parking, but you can always park outside the house. The street, and neighborhood is never busy, and a great place to live.
Please comment if you're interested. I'd be happy to schedule a walk-through.

Speaking of Ted Mann Hall on the U campus, there's an orchestra concert there tonight at 7:30, featuring lots of Elgar with some Mozart and Bizet. It's going to be awesome, and having a full actually makes the acoustics better, so come check it out.

I checked the memories, but I didn't find anything on selling musical instruments.
First off, I know about Craigslist and eBay.
What is the best way for me to sell the following instruments?
mid-1940s Story & Clark spinet piano. excellent condition, with original bench. needs tuning. the keys are real ivory. my family has been the only owners.
cremona violin. full size. used 3 times. i haven't had it very long, but finances require me to sell it. ebony pegs and fingerboard. will throw in my chromatic (?) tuner as well as rosin.
Would it be better to list it on Craigslist or eBay? Is there any stores locally that will buy them?
any help would be very appreciated.

It's finally happening. North country is shutting down. They said that they should be closed up by the end of the month.
The store is really struggling financially so if you want to support them, go there to pick up some groceries in these final days.

Is this a permanent, free thing? I tried searching it in the news and they talk about it being for the bridge at that time, and they talk about the business side, but I can't tell whether it's free to use for the public at all times.
